Kids vs. Family Sessions | Family Photographer
This sweet mama contacted me about a session for her kids. And, yes, her kids are absolutely precious, and would totally rock their own session. But I’m so very glad that she and her hubby decided to get in the frame too!
This mama actually does an impressive job of documenting her family’s life. Facebook overflows with their outings and adventures. So she didn’t NEED these pictures as visible proof that she exists. And, maybe, you feel that way too. Your cell phone takes great pictures of your daily memories, and maybe that’s enough?
But it’s not just about being visible. When parents join in, kids light up! They LOVE when you play games with them, and tickle them, and toss them up in the air! They forgot about the camera, because they’re just having fun! And that’s when the genuine smiles and belly laughs happen! (not just for the kids, but for parents too!)
But it’s not just about the kids. Sure, you will get beautiful pictures of their dimpled, gap-toothed smiles, but you will also get photos of YOU interacting with your babies! And these are the images that will stir up all the feels of parenting at this stage - soothing tears, butterfly kisses, and oohing and aahing over all the rocks and treasures your child shows you. This oh-so-brief moment in time when your child still fits in your arms, has an imagination without limits, and believes you are his biggest hero.
And, these are the photos THEY will love to look at when they’re older, remembering how it felt to play with you, and soak up all that love and undivided attention.
This session was full of wildflowers and digging up dinosaur teeth and a perfect summer sun! But there was another beautiful perk that happens when parents get in front of the camera - husband and wife photos - and oh my, were these two the cutest!! They are so in love, they were practically glowing! Take a look!
Isn’t it magical what can happen when parents get in the pictures? I know it can seem scary. I get it. I’m very self-conscious when I’m on the other side of the camera. But it’s not about smiling awkwardly. It’s about your family just having fun together, and documenting how that looks and feels.
And I have to include one more, because …… baby legs!!!! Eeeekkk! Those squishy little thighs!!!
